What is a sworn translator?
A sworn translator in Poland is a person authorized by the Minister of Justice to prepare translations that carry the legal force of an official document.
Sworn translators are appointed after meeting specific requirements, including passing a state examination. Certified translations are required by government offices, courts, universities, and other institutions when official confirmation of translation fidelity is needed.
When do you need a sworn translator?
Certified translation is required for registering civil status records, legalizing foreign diplomas, registering imported vehicles, court proceedings, and submitting documents to public administration offices.
Most commonly needed for birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates, university diplomas, driver's licenses, and vehicle documents.
How much does certified translation cost?
One settlement page of certified translation in Poland contains 1,125 characters including spaces. Per-page prices range from 30–40 PLN for common languages to 70–100 PLN for rare languages.
Express mode incurs a surcharge of 50% to 100% of the base price. Exact pricing depends on language, document volume, and chosen turnaround mode.
How long does certified translation take?
Standard turnaround: 2–5 business days. Expedited mode: 1–2 business days. Express mode: same day (documents must be delivered by 10:00 AM).
Turnaround depends on document volume and language. Standard documents (civil registry, driver's licenses) are completed fastest.

Difference between sworn and regular translators
A sworn translator is registered on the Minister of Justice's official list. Their translations, bearing an official stamp, have the force of an official document. Regular translations are not accepted by government offices or courts.
A regular translator does not hold official authorization — their work may serve informational purposes but is not accepted as an official document.
